Savings update

We have saved 29% of our yearly goal already! YAY! There were a few weeks this month that I did not transfer the weekly amount from Jeff's paycheck. We are still way ahead of our goal though. I was hoping for a big chunk of money back from the IRS, but evidently you get married and you get screwed on your taxes. LOL. We are getting enough back to cover the deposit and first months rent on a new place though. That was the most important thing. I had wanted to pay off a good chunk of my car so that I could hopefully completely pay it off this year, but that is not going to happen. I also wanted to take the rest and apply to our savings fund. Oh well, overall I am happy with the way our savings is going. I also paid off my laptop this month. So that will be an extra $85 a month. Have not quite decided where I am going to put it though. How are your savings coming?

Congrats Natalie... You all seem to be doing great with your money --in this horrible economy... The key I think is to get things paid off where you have to pay interest. It's called being debt-free---and we try hard not to ever carry any debt on credit cards or anything. The interest these days is horrible. Good Luck!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

You guys are doing great!

You could always put the "extra" $85 into your savings for additional cushion or a bigger rainy day fund. I know I like ours to be as big as we can get it!

Good on you! It's so important to pay down your debts, especially while you are still young! I know older folks who can't retire because they just can't afford to.

By the end of this year, our only debt (knock wood!) will be our house. Of course our oldest will graduate next year from high school...
